If you are looking for the serial number on a Farmall Cub tractor, you need to look on the steering gear housing on the right side. The serial number plate will be there.

The serial numbers will vary from year to year. The serial numbers follow a logical progression and you can tell from the serial number table below that there were over 200,000 of these tractors made.

The digits of the serial number will tell you the year that is was made as well as give you some estimation of how early or late in the year, that particular tractor was made.

As a side note, the Farmall Cub Tractor sold for less than $550 in 1947, with no implements or extras.

For a quick way to get an estimate of exactly when a Farmall Cub was manufactured you can use the following guidelines:

From 1947-1954 the tractors came with a grille that was wire mesh. The serial numbers for these models were from SN501 through SN185000

The grille was changed to a nine bar grille in 1944 and that grille was continued until 1958. The serial numbers for this series is from SN185000 to SN210000.

Although the serial numbers remained in consecutive order, they did change the looks of the grille in 1956 to the plain white grille. They continued with that grille until 1958.

During 1958 another grille change was made to the three bar grille, and of course it was white too. The serial numbers for the Farmall Cubs with the three bar grille is between SN210001 and SN222500. Another telltale sign in addition to the three bar grille is that they went to the yellow paint during 1960. So a yellow Farmall Cub with a three bar grille was made sometime between 1960 and 1963.

The last changes were in 1963 when they went to the grille and hood that were both flat and of course they were white too. The flat hood and flat white grille continued for five years between 1963 and 1968. The serial numbers are for 1963 through 1968 are: 221383 through 232980.
